Training???

Have you ever seen a documentary about a pack of animals, where the 'Alpha' dog, wolf, lion, etc. led the pack into a dangerous situation?

No, because they wouldn't, unless there was no other way around it.

It opened my eyes, when I realised, what training a dog, actually meant. That what I was doing, wasn't actually helping the dog, but adding to his misery.

For example, leading your dog, who fears other dogs, towards them and as if that wasn't bad enough, he is also being choked, by the slipknot collar recommended by the trainer, and that is supposed to 'help' your dog. That doesn't make any sense to me what so ever.

When I am out and about with my two and they see something that they are not sure about, I don't drag them towards it, but instead, go to the object, eg. a binliner caught in some branches, look at my two and tell them it's fine, but it is up to them if they want to get closer or not and 9 out of 10 times, they do. I am 'showing' them that there is nothing to fear.

Isn't that approach better???

Dog 'Trainers' always insist that a dog needs 2-3 walks a day, the bigger the dog, the longer the walk. Yes, that is a good way to 'tire' your dog/s out, but not everyone has that opportunity, or, as it is in my case, the possibility to do so. Due to my health problems, I'm lucky if I can take them out once a day. Yet, I have 2 big breed dogs that don't destroy the house due to boredom, though Caylee can be quite mischivious when she wants to be.

You will not see a 'homeless' pack of dogs, spending hours and hours, walking, they do the opposite, they will conserve energy as much as possible, because, who knows when you might need the 'energy' to chase/hunt, or escape from danger.

Animals never wander for the fun of it, there is always a reason why they do, what they do.
